Its all Heathers Fault!!!!

I blame it on Heather!!! She had to give me the wool, needles and pattern to try a pair of socks! As if I don't have enough W.I.P's! But I just couldn't help it! So...first ever attempt at socks as well as double pointed needles. Difficult to get started...but once you have a row or two worked actually not to bad. I would not recommend starting with such a small wool and needle. I have also read that the metal needles are more difficult to work with because they can slid out so easily where as the bamboo and wooden ones are more likely to stay put. But anyway here is the start of a very small pair of socks!

A Witty idea!

For your knitting on the go try a hat box! Fits alot of wool and some of the bigger boxes will fit those longer needles! Easy to store and carry!

The Aran Sweater!

Sooo this is going to be my lif's work! Well that's what it feels like at least! My first Aran sweater. I got this pattern from Pauls mom while I was in Ireland. It consists of nothing but Bramble Stitch's. Which is...k1,p1,k1 into one stitch then p3tog...yeahhh lotta work. This is the back section of the sweater. It is going to be a pullover with a hood. The wool is a brand called Wendy Aran. I picked it up also while in Ireland. It is a blend of 75% Acrylic and 25%wool. I am working the sweater on 4mm US 6 needles. And it just seems to be taking forever. But I am picking up speed so we shall see. It will be nice when its done. And everyone keeps asking whole its for the answer ME!!!! This will be MINE!!! So I will keep you posted as to her progress.

Mom's Cable Scarf

So this is one of my W.I.P's (Works in Progress). It is a scarf I am making for my mother. I am using Lion Brands Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in the Fisherman color. I love working with this wool! This is the third scarf I have made with it. It is a blend of 80% Acrylic 20% Wool. so it is machine washable. This scarf was a free pattern found on the Lion Brands website. I am working it on 9mm US 13 needles and using a 8mm needle to do the cable work. Very easy pattern. A great pattern for someone wanting to try cables.

First Meeting...no PARTY of the Knit Wits

Well the first meeting was great! We had Barb Heather and I at my humble apartment in Alexandria. We did get a little bit of knitting done :-) Truth is we have'nt seen each other in so long there was just too much to talk about! LOL However...we did get barb back on the needles and doing a pretty good job having not done it in a while. Heather is working on a scarf for her brother which she started engh a little while ago...(January!) and I got a few rows done on a nice cable scarf that I am making for my mom. And all in all just had a nice time. I would say we learned 2 lessons...

1. Stacy bought WAY TO MUCH FOOD!
2. We need to do this often so we have less to talk about! LOL

So here is what we are thinking...we talked about trying to meet officially the second Wednesday and the last Wednesday of every month. With the occasional casual meetings on the weekend. Heather is getting a house and wants to be a hostess with the most! And I just want to get out of the house! So the occasional want to knit his weekend may happen as well. We kind of came to the conclusion that it seams like I am the most central point for everyone. So for ow we are just going to hold the next meting or two here. Meeting....I don't like that word sounds like work....from here on n they will be PARTY'S! So the next two PARTY'S will be on May the 9th and May the 30th. 6:30 7:00ish worked well too.
If anyone wants to just chill and knit at other times PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put out a post.

Quiet....Too Quiet

Twas the night before the meeting
and all through my place...
I'm frantically cleaning,
mud mask on my face!

I placed the skeins of wool
all snug in a basket,
with visions of the wonders
I soon will knit!

Ok...I just realized there are 12 sections to that poem...My brain can't handle that right now!!!

What I'm trying to say is "I'm excited for tomorrow night!" Mainly because if I don't get some socialization soon, I'm going to need that pretty white coat with the fancy buckles on it. (While it would be very fashionable with spring coming up, not my style)

SO...tomorrow the madness begins! I will be sure to take pictures and have a full report from the Star Trek convention.
